Best Time to Visit

Kibale National Park can be visited throughout the year. The drier months from December to February and June to September generally offer the best trekking conditions, although chimpanzee tracking is available year-round.

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala/Entebbe to Kibale Forest National Park

Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from Kampala or Entebbe. Travel west through Uganda’s beautiful countryside, passing tea plantations, traditional homesteads, and rolling hills. Enjoy lunch en route before continuing to the Kibale Forest region near Fort Portal.

Depending on your arrival time, you may visit the scenic crater lakes around Fort Portal or simply relax at your lodge and enjoy the tranquil forest atmosphere.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Wetland Nature Walk

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Kibale National Park Visitor Centre for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. Enter the rainforest in search of habituated chimpanzees. The trek can last between 2 and 5 hours depending on the location of the chimpanzee community. Once located, you will spend one memorable hour observing these fascinating primates as they feed, groom, communicate, and move through the forest canopy. Kibale is one of Africa’s best destinations for chimpanzee encounters and is known for its high chimpanzee sighting success rate.

Return to the lodge for lunch before heading to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for an afternoon guided nature walk. This community-managed wetland is famous for its rich biodiversity and supports numerous primate species, including red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. The sanctuary is also a renowned birding destination, with more than 138 recorded bird species, including the spectacular Great Blue Turaco.

Day 3: Return to Kampala/Entebbe

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before checking out and beginning your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. Along the way, take in the stunning scenery of western Uganda and make brief stopovers for photography and refreshments.

Arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the late afternoon, marking the end of your unforgettable Kibale Forest adventure.
