Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Kigali
Arrival at Kigali International Airport where you will be welcomed by your guide.
Depending on arrival time, enjoy a short city tour including the moving Kigali Genocide Memorial and local artisan markets.
Overnight in Kigali.
Day 2 – Kigali to Akagera National Park
After breakfast depart east toward Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah park and home to the Big Five.
Arrive in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive across open plains dotted with lakes and acacia woodland.
Wildlife sightings may include elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelope, and lions.
Dinner and overnight in Akagera.
Day 3 – Game Drive & Boat Safari
Early morning game drive in the northern sector of Akagera where wildlife viewing is often excellent.
In the afternoon enjoy a boat safari on Lake Ihema, famous for large populations of hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife.
Dinner and overnight in Akagera.
Day 4 – Akagera to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast depart for the scenic drive through Kigali and continue north toward Volcanoes National Park in the Virunga Mountains.
The journey passes rolling hills, terraced farms, and rural villages that give Rwanda its nickname.
Check in at your lodge and relax.
Dinner and overnight near Volcanoes National Park.
Day 5 – Gorilla Trekking Experience
An early start takes you to the park headquarters for a briefing before beginning the unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure.
Guided by expert trackers, hike through dense rainforest in search of a habituated family of mountain gorillas. Once located, spend one magical hour observing them in their natural habitat.
Return to the lodge for relaxation.
Dinner and overnight near Volcanoes National Park.
Day 6 – Lake Kivu & Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
After breakfast depart toward the scenic shores of Lake Kivu with time to enjoy the beautiful lakeside environment.
Continue south along one of Rwanda’s most scenic roads to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s oldest rainforests.
Dinner and overnight in Nyungwe.
Day 7 – Chimpanzee Tracking & Return to Kigali
Early morning chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest, home to several groups of Chimpanzee as well as many other primates and bird species.
Later enjoy the famous canopy walkway suspended high above the forest floor for spectacular rainforest views.
After lunch begin the return journey to Kigali and transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure.
End of safari.
